Rock Spot Climbing to host Friday the 13th Showdown on 12/13/13 Bouldering competition will attract national talent; unique, “last man standing” style finals; over $1,300 in cash prizes.

January 14, 2013- Boston, MA -Rock Spot Climbing, New England’s largest indoor climbing gym operators, announces that it will host a large-scale climbing competition event on Friday, December 13, 2013 at their Boston, MA location. The event is a combination of the horror-themed Friday the 13th comp held in 2009, and the climbing world’s first ever Showdown style competition which they created and held in 2011.Rock Spot Climbing will welcome sponsored athletes from all over. The strongest of the strong will descend upon the Boston, MA location, competing in a redpoint round of preliminaries. The top 20 climbers will advance to a “last man standing” style finals where competitors climb increasingly difficult problems until they drop. The competition will consist of both a citizen’s comp and Open category. The citizen’s climbers will be competing for prizes valued at over $1,300, while the Open division will battle for over $1,300 in cash. Prizes are awarded to the top 13 climbers in each division.A post-climb/spectator lounge will provide refreshments for those 21+ while raising funds to support local climbing.
